Alpinestars Supertech goggles review – Introduction

Date:

Ever since Alpinestars got into the MX helmet game, it only made sense for them to introduce their own line of motocross goggles. The company now has a full range available, and what you see here is the top-of-the-line Supertech Vision Vista goggle.

The Supertech Vision Vista has been developed along with some of Alpinestars’ top MX athletes, and it has many features designed for their particular needs. That doesn’t mean that a non-pro rider can’t enjoy the benefits, and while I am very much on the casual end of the spectrum when it comes to off-road riders, this has easily been the nicest pair of goggles I’ve used so far.

The first thing I noticed is how nicely it fits my face. A contoured double-foam layer helps with that refined fit, while an integrated outrigger design on the goggle frame helps it sit better on the helmet. On the move, the comfortable yet snug fit was aided by the fact that I had no fogging issues, and sweat seemed to be very well managed as well. Alpinestars says it has designed what it calls a moisture channel in the foam, which guides sweat along the top and then down the sides of the goggles to prevent sweat from settling on the lens.

A big part of the development of these goggles is the lens itself. This polycarbonate lens is designed to have impact resistance while also promising zero visual distortion. I particularly found myself liking the gentle tint – it doesn’t dim the vision too much, but takes a lot of the glare out while still giving me excellent vision.

The Supertech goggles also have a unique lens-swapping system that uses two snap locks on either side to allow you to easily swap lenses when they are dirty or if you want to change to a clear lens for dark riding. The Supertech Vision can also be bought equipped with Alpinestars’ clever roll-off system, which is an alternative to tear-offs, where the rider can rotate a knob on one side to roll the dirty lens material off. This is something MX riders will appreciate in wet and muddy conditions, but it wasn’t something I felt I needed.

The Supertech Vision goggles are rather expensive, and you can get the Vision 8 model, which is one step below, for half the money. However, if you already have a top-of-the-line MX lid, these goggles make for a great pairing, and you will appreciate the benefits they bring.
