Taiwan’s 2LOUD Custom transforms a 2016-model Triumph Street Twin into an effortlessly cool street scrambler.

When Triumph overhauled their entire range of modern classics in 2016, the Street Twin slid into the bottom end of the catalog as the successor to the outgoing Bonneville SE. But despite its entry-level status, it offered riders a whole lot of motorcycle for less money than some of its more premium stablemates.

Now nine years old, the Street Twin is a prime candidate for customization. It’s old enough to be affordable, new enough to be reliable, and simple enough to leave room for your imagination to run amok.

This 2016-model Triumph Street Twin from 2LOUD Custom is a masterclass in squeezing the maximum potential out of the humble 900 cc roadster. Although shop boss Ma ‘Max’ Yicheng has spun spanners on modern Triumphs before, this is the first time he’s worked on one from the marque’s liquid-cooled era. Still, the Taiwanese craftsman has managed to imbue the Street Twin with the same stylish, laid-back vibe that 2LOUD is famous for.

Max started by fine-tuning the Street Twin’s stance. The front forks were liberated of their reflectors, cleaned up, shortened, and painted black. Out back, the shocks were swapped out for a custom-built set from the Taiwanese brand GJMS.

The OEM alloy wheels were replaced by a set of laced hoops in the same sizes: 18 inches at the front and 17 inches at the rear. The rims and hubs were finished in gloss black to contrast the stainless steel spokes, and wrapped in chunky Pirelli Scorpion Rally STR tires.

The changes to the Street Twin’s bodywork are subtle, but effective. Max kept the original fuel tank, but removed its seam for a tidier look. The fenders are handmade pieces, covered in a clear coat to preserve their brushed texture.

The seat is new, too, finished with elegant upholstery—a hallmark of 2LOUD’s work. The frame rails below it were shortened and looped, but Max retained just enough space to squeeze a passenger on in a pinch.

New aluminum side covers were fabricated next, sporting a more classic aesthetic than the sharply sculpted stock parts. They bolt directly to the bike’s existing mounting points, so Max plans to add them to 2LOUD’s ever-growing catalog of aftermarket parts.

The bike’s chain guard, taillight, and handlebars were plucked from the 2LOUD stash, too, while the brake discs are from Max’s performance parts label, 2SPEED. The front brake uses a Beringer caliper, and the bars are fitted with Frando controls, micro switches, and Motogadget grips and bar-end turn signals. The ignition barrel was relocated to a small bracket on the left-hand side of the motor.

Tidying up the front end further, Max sourced a headlight with an integrated Motogadget speedo from the French Bonneville experts BAAK, and painted the fork yokes black. Other details include a relocated regulator, blacked-out throttle body covers, and finned engine covers from Motone in the UK.

The fuel tank and side covers were painted in a metallic silver hue, emulating the brushed texture of the fenders, with delicate striping and logos adding a hint of contrast. Max finished the bike off with a pair of handmade brushed stainless steel exhausts, keeping with the minimalist theme that the rest of the bike exhibits.
